We are committed to improving accessibility for all passengers.
Our fleet currently offers the following features:
- All our buses are low floor easy access
- They are all capable of kneeling to the curb and lowering a ramp at the entrance with no stairs at the front or rear doors
- They kneel to within inches of standard curb height – this allows near-level boarding and reduces the height to enter the bus
- You can request the operator kneel the bus or lower the ramp at any time to assist with boarding or exiting the bus
- All ramps have a grip tape surface to prevent slipping in wet and snowy conditions
- Most buses provide automated external audio announcements that share route information when arriving at a bus stop
- All buses announce upcoming stops both audibly and on a visual display board
We have designated priority and courtesy seating areas to help ensure people with disabilities and additional travel needs can ride safely.
Priority seating
- Area marked by a blue sticker
- Located at the front of the bus
- On newer buses, priority seats are yellow
- Designed for people with both visible and invisible disabilities
- Includes features to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters, including flip-up seats and securement stations
- Anyone can sit in these seats, but you will be asked to move if a person who requires the priority seating boards the bus
- The operator will play an automated message with this request and may also directly ask other passengers to vacate the area
- This includes passengers with strollers, who may be required to fold and stow them
Courtesy seating
- Area marked by a black sticker
- Located near the front of the bus, behind the priority seating area
- On newer buses, courtesy seats are green
- Designed for people who benefit from being seated near the door, including seniors, those who are pregnant, and those travelling with young children
- Courtesy seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis
- Seats in the priority seating area are adjustable
- Depending on the bus model, you can flip them up by either:
- Lifting with a hand anywhere along the edge of the seat
- Pulling a lever or knob underneath the seat
- Once the seat is lifted halfway up, the seat will balance and you can reposition your hand to lift the seat the rest of the way
- This feature provides options for passengers to keep mobility aids and strollers out of the aisle – please ensure the aisle is kept clear so other passengers can board the bus
We recommend the following steps for mobility aid users.
Canes/Crutches
- Ask the operator to kneel the bus or lower the ramp
- Position yourself safely away from the bus if using the ramp
- Keep your mobility aid close to you when travelling and ensure the aisle is clear
Walkers
- Ask the operator to kneel the bus or lower the ramp
- Position yourself safely away from the bus if using the ramp
- Flip up the seats in the priority seating area for walker storage or fold your walker to ensure the aisle is clear
Manual wheelchairs
The ramp is 30” wide – check the dimensions of your wheelchair before travelling:
- Measure the width of your wheelchair from outside rim to rim
- If your wheelchair is more than 28” wide, you will be unable to access the bus
- To safely access the bus using the ramp you will require a minimum of 1” on either side of your wheelchair
- Measure the total length of your wheelchair
- If your wheelchair length is more than 48”, you will have difficulty making the turn upon entering the bus and also positioning the wheelchair in the designated location
If you are able to board:
- Ask the operator to kneel the bus or lower the ramp
- Position yourself safely away from the bus if using the ramp
- If you are travelling with a backpack or bag on your wheelchair, please consider the size, dimensions, and if it can be repositioned during travel as this may impact your ability to use a securement system
- Apply your wheel lock
Power wheelchairs
The ramp is 30” wide – check the dimensions of your wheelchair before travelling:
- Measure the width of your wheelchair from outside rim to rim
- If your wheelchair is more than 28” wide, you will be unable to access the bus
- To safely access the bus using the ramp you will require a minimum of 1” on either side of your wheelchair
- Measure the total length of your wheelchair
- If your wheelchair length is more than 48” you will have difficulty making the turn upon entering the bus and also positioning the wheelchair in the designated location
If you are able to board:
- Ask the operator to kneel the bus or lower the ramp
- Position yourself safely away from the bus if using the ramp
- Adjust the speed of your power wheelchair to allow you to safely enter/exit the bus and maneuver your mobility aid
- If you are travelling with a backpack or bag on your wheelchair, please consider the size, dimensions and if it can be repositioned during travel as this may impact your ability to use the securement system
- Ensure your wheelchair is powered down
Scooters
The ramp is 30” wide – check the dimensions of your scooter before travelling:
- Measure the width of your scooter from widest point to point
- If your scooter is more than 28” wide, you will be unable to access the bus
- To safely access the bus using the ramp you will require a minimum of 1” on either side of your scooter.
- Measure the total length of your scooter
- If your scooter is more than 48” long you may have difficulty making the turn upon entering the bus and also positioning the scooter in the designated location
- Check the turning radius of your scooter- this can vary greatly between different types of scooter
- This will greatly impact your ability to access the bus and designated securement locations.
If you are able to board:
- Ask the operator to kneel the bus or lower the ramp
- Position yourself safely away from the bus if using the ramp
- Ensure the battery on your scooter is fully charged before travelling
- Adjust the speed of your scooter to allow you to safely enter/exit the bus and maneuver your mobility aid
- Ensure your scooter is powered down
- Ensure you bring enough oxygen for the full duration of your trip
- Unexpected circumstances may cause trip delays and it is important to be prepared
Passengers are welcome to travel with service animals on the bus.
- You are responsible for the care, supervision and control of the service animal at all times
- Service animals are to remain on the floor near you or on your lap
We offer a Request Stop service after 7 p.m. to help reduce the amount of walking riders must do after dark.
You can request an operator let you off between stops.
To use this service:
- Inform your operator at least one stop ahead of the requested stop
- Exit by the front door only
The operator will only provide Request Stop service at locations they deem safe.
