The Province of Manitoba released its March flood outlook on March 20, 2026.
The Province states there is a low to moderate risk of significant flooding along the Red River. It does not expect to operate the Floodway, but it may be operated under unfavourable weather conditions to reduce water levels within Winnipeg.
Spring flood risk remains largely dependent on weather conditions from now through the melt period, including additional snowfall, spring rainfall and the timing and rate of snowmelt.
Types of flooding
Basement and overland flooding
Basement flooding happens when wastewater enters your home through your sewer lines. Overland flooding happens when water enters your home through the outside walls.
River flooding
River flooding happens when river levels rise above the riverbanks and the overflowing water causes damage to your property.
