There is a one-time cost of $5 to purchase a peggo card.
The cost to ride depends on the type of fare you use. Fares are broken down into five categories:
Full fare
For people aged 17-64 years who aren’t attending high school or a post-secondary institution
Senior fare
For people aged 65 and older
Seniors must show photo ID to board
Free Youth Transit Pass
For students aged 11-21 enrolled in a Winnipeg-based public, independent, or home school program for the 2026-2027 school year.
High school students should carry student ID with their bus pass and show it when they board.
All Youth Pass holders must show a valid free youth transit pass to board.

Photo IDs help bus operators ensure people pay the right fare for their age.
Proof of age may be required for high school students, seniors, and children who look older than their age.
Government-issued identification, school-issue student photo ID or GoCARDS, and Transit Photo ID cards all work as proof of age.
Transit Photo ID cards can be purchased for $4.25 (including GST and PST) at the Osborne Transit Customer Service Centre.
Eligible post-secondary students receive a discount on 7-day, 28-day, monthly, and semester peggo cards.
You must purchase your post-secondary peggo card at your school. Staff will attach a validation sticker to your student ID at the point of purchase. You must show your student ID with this sticker visible to board a bus using your post-secondary peggo card.
Operators can confiscate post-secondary cards if riders cannot present a valid ID. Your post-secondary pass is for your use only, and it is illegal to sell or transfer it to another person.

Eligibility requirements
Full or part-time students enrolled in credit courses leading to a recognized degree, certificate, or diploma at one of the following Winnipeg institutions:
- Universities and colleges recognized by an Act of the Manitoba Legislature
- Private vocational institutions with a current certificate of registration issued by the Provincial Department of Advanced Education and Literacy
- Adult education centers
Students participating in apprenticeship and continuing education programs do not qualify for a Post-Secondary Student Pass.
The WINNpass program provides individuals with low income the opportunity to receive a 50 percent discount off the full-fare rate for monthly transit passes and e-cash rides.
Eligibility requirements
If you are a Winnipeg resident age 64 and under, you qualify for WINNpass if:
- You are receiving Employment and Income Assistance and do not qualify for transportation allowance in the equivalent amount of a bus pass
- You are a new permanent resident or a refugee who has been in Canada for less than a year and have not yet filed a tax return
- You are a part of a household with income less than the Low Income Cut Off (amounts listed below)

Program approval
You will receive a letter indicating whether you are approved for the program.
This letter will provide instructions for picking up your WINNpass card.
Cards are active for one year from the program acceptance date and are subject to a $5 card fee. They are non-transferable and must not be sold or shared.
Winnipeg Transit offers fare-free travel for children 11 years old and younger who are riding with a fare-paying customer.
While proof of age is not required, children must board and exit the bus at the same locations as the fare-paying customer they are riding with. A fare-paying customer can include a:
- Parent
- Guardian
- Sibling
- Grandparent
- Babysitter
Note: Children riding in the absence of a fare-paying customer are required to pay the appropriate fare amount. Organization–led excursions such as school and childcare centre field trips are also not eligible.
This program eliminates financial barriers to public transit for families with children too young to stay at home. We also want to encourage members of the next generation to choose public transit.
The Free Youth Transit Pass Pilot provides a free transit pass to students aged 11-21 who are enrolled in Grades 7-12 at a Winnipeg-based public, independent, or home school program for the 2026-2027 school year.
Passes will be valid from September 2026-August 2027 and are valid for any trip, route, or time of day, including Winnipeg Transit’s On Request service and Transit Plus (for students who meet eligibility requirements).
The youth transit pass can be used for any transit trip- not just those to and from school. The program is designed to remove transportation barriers and improve youth access to school, recreation, employment, and community activities.
Getting your pass
Passes will be available from Winnipeg schools. Students should check with their school on availability.
Using your pass
Schools will distribute passes along with a Transit Wallet to store both the pass and the student’s ID.
All students must show their valid youth transit pass when boarding. High school students should also show their student ID.
Lost or stolen passes
Students will need to report their lost or stolen passes to their school.

Transit safety
The safety of our passengers is a top priority.
Winnipeg Transit has invested more than $9.6 million in transit safety initiatives since 2017.
Talk with your child about what to do if they ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe while riding transit. Encourage them to:
- Move closer to other people on the bus or at a bus stop.
- Sit near the front of the bus close to the bus operator.
- Let the operator know if they feel unsafe or need assistance.
- Get off the bus at a busy, well-lit stop.
- Go into a public place for help if needed.
- Call or text a trusted adult.
Passenger behaviour
Be a good transit passenger:
- Follow the Code of Conduct.
- Use the rear door to exit the bus when possible.
- Give up your designated priority and courtesy seating when needed.
- Use your headphones when listening to music.
- Smoking and use of e-cigarettes or vapes are illegal on any Winnipeg Transit vehicle or in passenger shelters.
