Can I put up a lost pet poster in your building?
  • Yes. The Animal Services Agency has a bulletin board in their front lobby and you are welcome to post your lost pet poster on it.
If you find my dog, will it cost anything to get it back?
  • If your dog is wearing its valid licence, and this is the first time it has been brought into the Animal Services Agency during the current licensing period, your dog will be released to you free of charge, if picked up by end of business the following day.
If my dog is at 1057 Logan – what do I need to bring to pick it up?
  • Dogs are only released to their owners. We require proof of ownership of the dog as well as your identification.
If you have a description of my dog, why do I have to come to your building to check if it is there?
  • Dog descriptions may vary so it is important that you check in person at the Animal Services Agency for your dog during kennel viewing hours. If your dog has been previously impounded during the current licensing period or does not have a valid licence, impound fees will apply. If your dog does not have a valid licence, you will also be required to purchase a dog licence prior to your dog being released from the Animal Services Agency.
Do you have cats at the Animal Services Agency building on Logan Avenue?
  • No. The Animal Services Agency does not have kennelling facilities for cats. Contact the Winnipeg Humane Society and other rescue shelters in the City of Winnipeg to check for your lost cat.
Will it cost anything to get my cat out of the Winnipeg Humane Society?
  • Yes. The Responsible Pet Ownership By-law states that cat owners are subject to impound fees if their cat is impounded. Call the Winnipeg Humane Society for specific details on your impounded cat.
What if I suspect my dog/cat has been hit by a car?
  • You should check the local vet clinics. You should also check with Deceased Animal Pick Up by phoning 311.
What other animals do you impound at the Animal Services Agency?
  • The Animal Services Agency does, on occasion, impound animals other than dogs. Contact the Animal Services Agency at 311. The Winnipeg Humane Society is another important contact when you have lost your pet. Call their Lost and Found Line at 204-982-2025

  • Yes - you can drop a dog off at the Animal Services Agency at 1057 Logan Avenue during regular business hours.
Can I keep the dog at my home and if someone calls you can give them my phone number?

Where should I take a dog that I found outside of the City of Winnipeg?

Do you take any other kind of found animal at the Animal Services Agency, other than dogs?
  • When necessary, the Animal Services Agency will impound a variety of animals including exotic animals and livestock.
Can I adopt the dog I found if no one claims it?
  • Advise the Animal Services Agency when you call that you are interested in adopting the dog if it is not claimed. If the dog enters the Adoption Program, you will be contacted.
What happens to unclaimed dogs?
  • The Animal Services Agency makes every attempt to reunite dogs with their owners. When a dog is brought into the Animal Services Agency facility at 1057 Logan Avenue, they are checked for any type of identification such as dog licence, tattoo, microchip.

Dogs wearing a valid licence are held for ten (10) days. All other dogs are held for three (3) days. After that time, the dog becomes the property of the City of Winnipeg. Dogs are assessed for their adoptability. If their temperament and health are good, they are placed in the Animal Services Agency Adoption Program. Unclaimed dogs from the Animal Services Agency may also be placed in adoption programs at various animal shelters throughout Winnipeg. There are times, however, that unclaimed dogs must be humanely euthanized, for health and temperament reasons.

The Animal Services Agency does not send unclaimed dogs for research.
