The City of Winnipeg produces greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. A GHG inventory is a list of emission sources and the associated amount of emissions. The inventory also includes energy use by fuel type. Energy use is measured in gigajoules (GJ) of energy and GHG emissions are measured in carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e).
These inventories measure change over time and support climate action planning. This tracking also allows the City to evaluate the success of projects and policies.
Community GHG Inventory
The City of Winnipeg produces a community inventory. This inventory tracks community-wide emissions. It includes emissions from buildings, transportation, waste, electricity, natural gas, and agriculture.
In 2022, Winnipeg as a whole emitted an estimated 4.76 million tonnes of CO2e.

In 2022, City of Winnipeg operations produced nearly 127,000 tonnes of CO2e.
The City also used over 2.5 million GJ of energy. This comes from 215 million kilowatt hours of electricity, 19 million cubic meters of natural gas, 21 million litres of diesel fuel, and 7 million litres of gasoline.
