This year's curbside yard waste collection program will start :
- The week of April 28 for homes in yard waste collection area "A"
- The week of May 5 for homes in yard waste collection area "B"
Our cart collection customers all receive yard waste collection. We collect yard waste once every two weeks, on your regular collection day. Yard waste collection runs from Spring through Fall (weather dependent).
Yard waste should be put out at your collection point before 7 a.m. on your collection day in one of these containers:
- A re-useable container without a lid
- A cardboard box
- A brown paper yard waste bag (available for sale at many local retailers)
Yard waste containers should weigh no more than 50 pound or 22 kilograms. Please place your yard waste an arm’s length away from any structures or other objects. You can prevent yard waste messes by storing your yard waste in a dry place until your collection day.

Acceptable yard waste includes organic yard waste material, such as:

What happens to yard waste
We compost the yard waste we collect at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility. The compost we produce meets Category A standards under the CCME Guideline for Compost Quality. This means it is safe to use in all household applications, including vegetable gardens.
We use the compost for landscaping at City facilities and give some away to residents during our annual compost giveaway.
How to produce less yard waste
You can produce less yard waste by composting it, or grasscycling.
Composting is the natural process of breaking down organic material, to produce a nutrient-rich, soil-like material. Composting | Green Action Centre has more information about composting on their website.
Grass cycling, also called mulching, is simply leaving the grass clippings on the lawn after mowing. The clippings quickly dry out and put nutrients back into the soil and your lawn.
