Neighbourhood Action Teams are officially coming to Winnipeg communities June 16
This new program is designed to solve everyday maintenance issues in one fell swoop. That means no more crews driving past potholes to trim trees or picking up garbage but leaving fallen branches.
It is also designed to bridge the gap between communities and the public service with on-the-ground presence and a friendly face.
Our NAT crew members are hand-picked for their ability to engage with residents. They come to communities able to explain processes and procedures. And they’re ready to listen and respond.
What to expect
This summer, we have three six-person neighbourhood action team crews. They will spend approximately four weeks in each ward from now to October.
We’ve reviewed 311 requests and worked with each area councillor to determine the highest-needs area in each ward.
The teams will work through as much of these areas as possible before their four-week stint is up.
They will tackle things like:
- Potholes
- Displaced sidewalks
- Leaning and damaged signs
- Debris
- Hazardous tree branches
- Uneven boulevard surfaces
These are the tasks that generate the most service requests through 311.
As of May 6, 2025 there were 17,675 service requests related to action team priorities:
- Potholes and displaced sidewalks: 12,219
- Graffiti: 630
- Leaning and damaged signs: 276
- Debris: 2,651
- Pruning: 1,811
- Boulevards needing soil and/or seed: 88
It’s important to note that you don’t need to call 311 to have the action team attend to an issue.
When we get to a street, we will fix everything within our scope – whether or not a service request exists for it. When we’re done, we will close all service requests related to our work within that area.
Where we’ll be
Here is our planned schedule for the season:
June 16 to July 11:
- Daniel MacIntyre
- Mynarski
- River Heights - Fort Garry
July 14 to August 8:
- Point Douglas
- St. Norbert - Seine River
- Waverley West
August 11 to September 4:
- Elmwood - East Kildonan
- Fort Rouge - East Fort Garry
- Transcona
September 8 to October 3
- Charleswood - Tuxedo - Westwood
- North Kildonan
- St. Boniface
October 6 to October 31:
- Old Kildonan
- St. Vital
- St. James
Teams will not be able to cover an entire ward within four weeks. This year, we’re focusing on the worst of the worst and areas where our time can make the biggest impact.
Again, we identified these pockets based on 311 service requests and consultations with your area councillors.
What you can do
We’re the boots on the ground, but you’re the eyes and ears of your community.
You know your neighbourhood and its challenges better than anyone.
If you see us out and about in your neighbourhood, don’t hesitate to stop and chat. Let us know your thoughts on this new program and give us the goods on your community.
We’ll put green signs up in each neighbourhood about a week before we arrive, focusing on streets where we will work. You can also spot us by our green City of Winnipeg shirts.
