Data and analytics services cover a range of ways that different users can get the raw data or information they need.
Data services
Data services tend to be for more technical users. Data services provide refined access to data, for example through an Application Programming Interface (API) for developers to use in their products or CSV files for social researchers collecting a range of evidence to form policy. The City’s Open Data Portal and Winnipeg Transit’s Open Data Web Service provide APIs.
Analytics services
Analytics services make data more accessible. Analytics services provide information and advice (rather than raw data) and are based on and enabled by data services. The City provides many analytics services and is continually exploring ways to add more.
