Road safety lawn signs

Lawn signs help make people more aware of road safety issues and can remind drivers to slow down and stop for pedestrians.

You can help make your street safer. Pick up a free lawn sign anytime this summer at:

  • Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex
  • Elmwood Kildonans Pool
  • Fort Rouge Leisure Centre
  • Margaret Grant Pool
  • Sergeant Tommy Prince Place
  • St. James Assiniboia Centennial Pool and Fitness Centre

Each household is eligible for one lawn sign. Available while supplies last.

Lawn signs should be displayed from April to October and stored indoors during the winter.

Lawn sign rules

These road safety lawn signs can make Winnipeggers more aware of road safety issues. They can help make people pay attention and remind drivers to slow down and stop for pedestrians.

You can put your sign:

  • On private property that you own or rent
  • On a grassy boulevard between the curb or edge of the road and the property line:
    • Not blocking a sidewalk, curb, multi-use path, or travel lane
    • Inserted into the ground using only the wire frame provided
    • Where it will not obstruct sight lines for pedestrians, cyclists or drivers
    • As supplied and without further illumination or the use of reflective tape

Do not place the sign:

  • Anywhere that obstructs a sidewalk, curb, path or road
  • Near a fire hydrant
  • On a roadway median, traffic circle, roundabout or island
  • On a bridge
  • In a ditch
  • Anywhere that blocks access to bridges, culverts, and overpasses
  • On a building, structure, post, pole, tree or bush
  • On a street where lawn signs are prohibited by the Neighbourhood Liveability By-Law
