Painted school zone markings

We are painting on-street markings on roadways in existing school zones. They will help make school zones more visible to drivers.   

We are piloting the markings at five locations this fall: 

  • Talbot Avenue at River Elm School 

  • St. Matthews Avenue at Greenway School 

  • Berry Street at Stevenson School 

  • Vermillion Road at Ecole Van Belleghem 

  • Burrows Avenue at Strathcona School 

These school zones have higher levels of speed enforcement activity despite existing reduced speed signage. Many are also more than 10 m wide, which may reduce drivers’ awareness of how fast they’re going.  

We collected speed data at these locations before installing the pavement markings. We will now monitor traffic to see if travel speeds go down in the area.
