Flooding

The Province of Manitoba released its first flood outlook on February 25, 2026.

The Province states there is a low to moderate risk of flooding in Winnipeg. It does not expect to operate the Floodway.

This outlook is subject to change with unfavourable weather conditions.

Types of flooding

Basement and overland flooding

Basement flooding happens when wastewater enters your home through your sewer lines. Overland flooding happens when water enters your home through the outside walls.

River flooding

River flooding happens when river levels rise above the riverbanks and the overflowing water causes damage to your property.
