Street & boulevard cleaning

Our annual spring cleanup begins Sunday, April 13. Watch for no-parking signage and move your vehicle when we schedule your street.

Avoid a ticket and tow

You can stay cleanup-to-date on parking restrictions related to street cleaning by:

Spring cleanup

Every spring, more than 500 workers and 300 pieces of equipment clean our entire transportation network. This spring cleanup takes around five to six weeks, weather permitting.

As part of spring cleanup, we work street-by-street, tidying:

  • Roadways
  • Bridges
  • Sidewalks
  • Pathways
  • Alleys
  • Boulevards and medians on major routes
  • Litter and debris in public parks

We do not typically clean boulevards on residential streets. We will only clean those with excessive sand.

    Parking restrictions

Vehicles parked in violation of no-parking signage may be ticketed and towed to the towing company's compound. The cost of a parking ticket is $150.00 ($112.50 if paid within 14 days).

Please avoid parking on a street when it is scheduled for cleaning.

You can tell if it is on our schedule by:

We only put temporary no-parking signs on select routes. Parking when these signs are up is illegal.
Parking on an unsigned street when it is scheduled just makes our job harder.

    Temporary no-parking signage

If we are posting no-parking signage, we will do so at least 24 hours before we clean. The signs will indicate when parking restrictions start.

You must move your car before this time.

We will ticket any cars that remain when restrictions begin. We may also tow these vehicles to a compound at the owner's expense.

    Ongoing street cleaning

Spring cleanup is our major cleaning operation.

After it’s done, we do some minor ongoing maintenance until winter operations start:

    • We sweep paved back lanes once a year after spring cleanup
    • We sweep Downtown streets three times a week
    • We flush major Downtown routes and sidewalks once a week
    • We typically sweep all other major routes overnight once a week
    • We pick up loose litter on Downtown roads and major routes as resources allow
    • We mow grass on boulevards and in fields and parks approximately 8-12 times through summer and fall

    Yard waste

Please do not rake yard waste or other debris onto streets for us to clean up.

This can plug drains, cause ponding problems, and increase the risk of basement flooding.

We collect yard waste on a cycle through the warmer months.
