Rental waiver

Facility rental fees may be eligible to be waived or reduced, subject to limits established in the annual operating budget. 

Eligibility criteria

Groups

To qualify for a facility rental fee waiver, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a non-profit group/organization, public school, or government agency
  2. Provide services that align with Council-adopted plans, policies, and strategies
  3. Serve at least one of the following population groups:
    • Persons at risk, vulnerable, or marginalized
    • Persons living on low income
    • Persons from an equity group
      • Women
      • Indigenous
      • Racialized
      • Persons with disabilities
      • Newcomers
      • 2SLGBTQ+
  4. Use the facility for one of the following activity types:
    • Recreational
    • Healthy living
    • Cultural
    • Library
    • Educational
    • Food security
    • Reconciliation

Individuals

Individuals who qualify for the Recreation Fee Assistance Program are also eligible for facility rental fee waivers. If you have not been approved for this program in the last 12 months, you will be asked to provide additional information to verify your eligibility.

How to apply for a rental fee waiver

Step 1 – Book your room

Many pools and fitness & leisure centres have rooms available to rent. Features and amenities at each facility can be found on the facility webpages.

Step 2 – Submit fee waiver request form

Once the room is booked, you can complete and submit the Fee Waiver Request Form to have the rental fees waived.

Please submit fee waiver request forms a minimum of three weeks before the event date, to allow for application processing time.

Next steps

Fee waiver requests will be reviewed against eligibility criteria and available budget. Applicants will be informed of the decision.

If your request is approved, your booking will be updated to reflect rental fee reductions.  Permit processing fees may still apply when rental fees are waived.
