Adult Literacy Program

Free daytime learning for adults at Milennium Library and Harvey Smith Library.

  • Get help with English reading, writing, and real-world skills.  
  • Classroom laptops. 
  • All supplies are provided. 

Locations

Entrance to Harvey Smith Library in the Cindy Klassen Recreation Centre. A pride flag hangs in the display window and the open sign on.

For beginner and intermediate learners (Manitoba Stage 1 to Mid-Stage 2)

Monday to Friday: 1-4 p.m.

For intermediate and advanced learners (Manitoba Mid-Stage 2 to Stage 3)

Monday to Friday: 12:30–4 p.m. 

About the program

We can help you:

  • Improve your English reading, writing, speaking, basic math and communication skills 
  • Learn job skills: resumes, job searching, and interview practice 
  • Learn digital skills: computers, email, internet, and using various apps 
  • Help prepare you for more advanced education programs 
  • Help you achieve personal goals in literacy and learning 

Your plan, your pace 

You choose what to learn and set your own goals. Together, we make a simple plan and track progress. Our small class size and one-on-one support will help you achieve your goals.  

The library has many supports to help in your learning: 

  • Help from our social workers, as needed. 
  • Bus tickets to help you get started (limited availability). 
  • Coffee/tea breaks. 
  • Relaxed, flexible and safe learning spaces!

Classes are September through June.  New learners are welcome at any time!
