Annual grant process

The Human Rights Committee of Council offers small grants to support community Human Rights initiatives and projects delivered in 2024. Applications are now being accepted for up to $2,000 for new projects, initiatives, events, conferences, citizen engagement, education and advocacy awareness.

Submit a formal grant request

Develop a formal grant request containing the below information into one PDF file and send it to the Human Rights Committee of Council Coordinator, Aly Raposo at araposo@winnipeg.ca.

Criteria

Priority interest will be given to requests with:

  • A direct focus on human rights, equity, diversity, immigration, age-friendly, access and disabilities, and peace-related issues.
  • Can demonstrate the grant need via support of local residents, participants, or agencies through various means, including letters of support.

Requests must include

  • Purpose for the funds
  • Name of individual/ organization
  • Charity Number (if applicable)
  • Date that the funds will be used
  • How the Grant is in line with the HRCC mandate
  • A broken-down budget with specific budget lines identifying usage of funds
  • A statement of agreement to report back
  • Letters of support if applicable

Reporting process

  • The grant recipients must report back within six months following the usage of funds.
  • Reports should include a summary of the distribution of funds and how it was in line with the HRCC mandate (human rights, equity, diversity, immigration, age-friendly, access and disabilities, and peace-related issues).
  • A breakdown of the expenses that were utilized should be included in the report.

More information

Funding for the grants is subject to approval by the Committee. Only applicants who have been approved for funding will be notified in writing. Any approved grants will be subject to the applicant and the HRCC entering into a grant agreement setting out the terms and conditions of such funding. Requests that follow criteria are not automatically approved. Approved applicants are not guaranteed the full dollar request and may only receive a portion of the fund request.
