Advance voting

In the weeks leading up to Election Day, eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballot at any of the below advance voting locations. In person advance voting will begin May 9, 2024.

Please be advised that all locations may be subject to change.

    City Hall Advance

    Polling stations will be located at City Hall, Susan A. Thompson Building, 510 Main Street – Main Floor, City Clerk's Department, at the following dates and times:

    • Thursday, May 9, 2024 to Monday, June 3, 2024 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

    Community Advance

    Community Advance voting will be available at the Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre, located at 5 De Bourmont Avenue, at the following dates and times:

    • Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
    • Thursday, May 30, 2024  from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
    • Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

    Personal security protection

    Any person can request to have their name and address obscured from the voters list to protect their personal security. Applications must be submitted in writing to the Senior Election Official.

    A person whose name has been obscured is given a personal security certificate and identification number. The identification number for a person with a personal security certificate appears at the end of the voters list.

    Anyone who has applied for personal security protection can only vote by sealed envelope ballot.

    Sealed envelope ballot

    Voters can make an application to vote by mail (sealed envelope ballot). The voter will fill out an application to vote by mail and once the ballot package is received, they'll mark the ballot and return it in a sealed envelope to the Senior Election Official prior to the close of voting on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 8 p.m.

    Eligible voters are permitted to vote by sealed envelope ballot if they are unable to go in person to a voting station due to a disability (including health risks), are providing care to a person who is unable to leave their home, or expect that on By-election Day and the day or days of advance voting, they will be absent from their local authority, or, at a location so significantly distant from their voting location that it is not reasonably possible to vote in person.

    Requesting a sealed envelope ballot

    Applications to vote by mail may be submitted online, by mail or email, or in person.

    An application to vote by sealed envelope ballot may be submitted via online application form, by mail, or email beginning Monday, April 22, 2024 and ending Monday, June 3, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.

    In person

    An application to vote by sealed envelope ballot may be submitted in-person between Thursday, May 9, 2024 and Monday, June 3, 2024, 4:30 p.m.

    Important information

    A voter making an application in-person will be provided with a sealed envelope ballot package once the application is approved.

    • For applications received by Saturday, May 25, 2024, voters will receive a sealed envelope ballot package by mail, from the City Clerk’s Department. Packages will be mailed out starting May 6, 2024 through to May 25, 2024.
    • For applications received after Saturday, May 25, 2024, voters must make alternative arrangements with the City Clerk’s Department to receive a sealed envelope ballot package.

    Voters must return the ballot to the Senior Election Official, City Clerk's Department, Susan A. Thompson Building, 510 Main Street, prior to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

    The ballot must be returned to the Senior Election Official and will not be accepted at any voting location.
