Public Skating Rules
- We reserve the right to limit the number of skaters on the ice at one time.
- Skate only in the direction set by skate patrol.
- No food or drinks allowed on the ice.
- Training bars are to remain in the beginners’ area (note: no training bars provided).
- Strollers, sleighs, hockey sticks and footwear (other than skates) are NOT allowed on the ice surface.
- No throwing objects (elbow pad, gloves).
- No piggyback skating (including parents carrying their child).
- Penalty box, players’ benches are out of bounds.
- No dangerous skating (i.e. tag, crack the whip, fast skating, weaving through traffic, backwards skating, spins or figure skating).
- Cell phones are not to be used while skating, please leave the ice surface if you get a call.
- We strongly recommend the use of a CSA-approved hockey helmet and cage for all ages.
Any persons violating these rules or behaving in a disorderly manner will be asked to leave the area.
Skating Lessons
- The Learn to Skate program offers lessons with an emphasis on progressive skill development and fun.
- Trained instructors teach skating skills using a variety of activities and games in a non-competitive environment.

To participate in the Learn to Skate program, please note the following:
- Sharpen hockey or figure skates prior to the start of lessons.
- All children should wear mitts or gloves. Layers of warm clothing are recommended. Snow suits are appropriate for preschool-aged children.
- Skate bars are not permitted.
- A helmet is mandatory for all participants, including parents participating in Parent & Cub programs. A proper-fitting CSA approved helmet is recommended. Bicycle helmets are not permitted.
- We strongly recommend that helmets be equipped with a cage.
- Please note one parent is required for each child registered in Parent & Cub (1:1 ratio).
- For all programs, only one parent/guardian per registered participant will be permitted to enter the facility.
- Registration is not permitted after the start of the program.
- To ensure enrollment in the correct level, please refer to the flow chart in the Leisure Guide Skating brochure. Withdrawals will be subject to Program Withdrawal Fee.
