Taxi cab driver assaulted and chased with knife – youth in custody: C26-64420

On March 20, 2026, at 12:47 a.m., West District General Patrol officers arrested a 17-year-old male youth after responding to the report of a taxi cab operator who had just been assaulted.

Shortly after midnight, the 17-year-old youth attended the surface parking lot of a hotel in the 1300 block of Pembina Highway and approached the parked taxi. For unknown reasons, the youth engaged the driver into a verbal argument which escalated with him punching the driver through the open window. As the 18-year-old driver stepped out of the taxi, the suspect pulled out a large knife and chased him around the lot attempting to stab him. The driver was not injured during the incident. The youth fled on foot before police were contacted by hotel staff.

At 12:47 a.m., the youth returned to the area where officers located and arrested him without incident. A combat style knife was found on his person and seized as evidence.

The 17-year-old has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Fail to comply with Probation Order

The youth was also arrested on the strength of two warrants for Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, and Failure to Comply with Sentence x 2.

He was detained in custody.
