On August 22, 2025, West District General Patrol arrested a 21-year-old man following an assault on an on-duty mail carrier.

On August 21, at 1:23 p.m., a mail carrier was delivering mail in the Waverley Heights neighbourhood, when a resident exited their home and confronted him. Unprovoked, the man began berating the carrier which escalated when the victim was shoved to the ground and further assaulted. During the assault, the man attempted to steal the victim’s cell phone which was damaged as a result. A passing delivery driver intervened and assisted the carrier before police were called. The victim suffered minor injuries and did not require medical assistance.

Through their investigation, officers identified the suspect and arrested him without incident at his residence the following day.

The 21-year-old faces charges of Assault and Mischief to Property Under $5,000 and was released on an Undertaking.

Through implied license, mail carriers are legally permitted to deliver mail at a residence or place of business without the fear of verbal or physical assault.
