Firearm – Arrest: C25-60571

On March 21, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Portage Avenue and Maryland Street for the report of a male seen walking outside holding a firearm.

Central District General Patrol officers attended and quickly located the male suspect nearby and arrested him without incident. There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident.

Officers searched the suspect and seized the following:

  • Black improvised firearm
  • Three rounds of .22 calibre ammunition
  • Duramag Speed .223 calibre rifle magazine
  • Meat clever
  • Crow bar
  • Various other break-in tools

Michael Garry John GOVEREAU, 37, of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Weapon x 2
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
  • Possession of Break In Instrument(s)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply Probation Order
  • Warrant – Utter Threats, Fail to Comply Probation Order

He was detained in custody.
