On March 21, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Portage Avenue and Maryland Street for the report of a male seen walking outside holding a firearm.
Central District General Patrol officers attended and quickly located the male suspect nearby and arrested him without incident. There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident.
Officers searched the suspect and seized the following:
- Black improvised firearm
- Three rounds of .22 calibre ammunition
- Duramag Speed .223 calibre rifle magazine
- Meat clever
- Crow bar
- Various other break-in tools
Michael Garry John GOVEREAU, 37, of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
- Possession of Break In Instrument(s)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
- Warrant – Fail to Comply Probation Order
- Warrant – Utter Threats, Fail to Comply Probation Order
He was detained in custody.
