The Winnipeg World Police and Fire Games 2023 Host Society is pleased to announce the launch of its Legacy Program, a transformative initiative aimed at providing long-term support to first responders and the broader community in Winnipeg and Manitoba. With an investment of over $300,000, the program will focus on three key components designed to benefit local sports organizations, first responders, and future athletes.

  1. Donations to Local Sport Venues

As part of its commitment to enhancing Winnipeg's sports infrastructure, the World Police and Fire Games will donate $10,000 each to nine of the city's sports venues that were utilized during the games. These funds will support the maintenance, development, and upgrading of facilities that are crucial to fostering athletic talent in Winnipeg. The venues benefiting from this generous contribution will play an essential role in the development of local athletes for years to come.

  1. Athlete’s Legacy Fund for First Responders

In recognition of the dedication and sacrifice of first responders, the Legacy Program is also establishing a new Athletes Legacy Fund, with an initial donation of $34,000. This fund will provide financial assistance to first responders who are competing at future World Police and Fire Games, ensuring that their commitment to sport is supported and celebrated. The fund aims to remove financial barriers for those who have given so much in service to their communities.

  1. Supporting Youth Sports

The Winnipeg World Police and Fire Games is also excited to announce a $60,000 donation to three youth sports organizations in our Province. These organizations are dedicated to providing young people with the opportunity to participate in sports, fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership. The donation will provide opportunities for Manitoba’s youth to grow physically, mentally and culturally through Sport and Recreation.

“We are thrilled to launch the Winnipeg World Police and Fire Games Legacy Program, which reflects our ongoing commitment to both our community and our first responders,” said Ward Gordon, Treasurer of the World Police and Fire Games 2023 Host Society. “Through these donations, we are investing in the future of sports in Winnipeg, and Manitoba supporting the well-being and development of our athletes, and ensuring that the legacy of these Games continues to inspire for years to come.”

This initiative is just the beginning of the Games' lasting impact on the city and its residents. By supporting local venues, athletes, and youth organizations, the Winnipeg World Police and Fire Games 2023 Host Society is proud to leave a legacy that will benefit the community for generations to come.
