On October 10, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Guns and Gangs Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue on an adult male who was operating a motor vehicle along with three passengers.

Further investigation revealed that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and was found to be in possession of an edged weapon on his person.

The Guns and Gangs Unit arrested the male driver, as well as a male and two female passengers. Items seized from a subsequent search of the vehicle included the following:

  • Remington Model 700
  • Loaded magazine
  • .22 calibre bullets x 8
  • Decorative bullet belt
  • Black hunting knife
  • 0.25 grams of crack cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $25)
  • 2.05 grams of fentanyl (Estimated Street Value: $800)
  • 1.00 grams of methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value: $50)
  • 38.8 grams of cutting agent
  • Drug packaging and paraphernalia

A 23-year-old male from Winnipeg faces the following charges including:

  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Weapon x 2
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Fentanyl
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine

He was detained in custody. The three adult passengers were subsequently released without charge.
