On October 10, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Guns and Gangs Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue on an adult male who was operating a motor vehicle along with three passengers.
Further investigation revealed that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and was found to be in possession of an edged weapon on his person.
The Guns and Gangs Unit arrested the male driver, as well as a male and two female passengers. Items seized from a subsequent search of the vehicle included the following:
- Remington Model 700
- Loaded magazine
- .22 calibre bullets x 8
- Decorative bullet belt
- Black hunting knife
- 0.25 grams of crack cocaine (Estimated Street Value: $25)
- 2.05 grams of fentanyl (Estimated Street Value: $800)
- 1.00 grams of methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value: $50)
- 38.8 grams of cutting agent
- Drug packaging and paraphernalia
A 23-year-old male from Winnipeg faces the following charges including:
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Fentanyl
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
He was detained in custody. The three adult passengers were subsequently released without charge.
