Over the past month, the Winnipeg Police Service has responded to numerous pedestrian-related collisions, resulting in serious injuries and one fatality. The incidents occurred in parking lots, marked crosswalks, and controlled intersections, and victims ranged from children to adults in their 80s.

The investigations led to charges under the Highway Traffic Act, MPI Serious Offence Notices, and criminal charges related to impaired driving.

These incidents highlight the importance of extra vigilance when approaching intersections by yielding to pedestrians at crosswalks and controlled intersections.

In turn, pedestrians must be extra alert when facing oncoming vehicles. Take a moment to ensure the driver acknowledges your crossing, i.e., by making eye contact, giving a wave, etc.
