On October 18, 2026, at 2:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a physical assault at an apartment in the 2200 block of Portage Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located a group of people in the hallway, including two men who were injured and transported to hospital in stable condition. A CO2-powered pistol was recovered.

As the investigation unfolded, police learned the armed man was connected to another earlier incident at a restaurant in the 2100 block of Portage Avenue. Police were contacted after a man attended the restaurant but was refused service. As he was leaving, staff observed what appeared to be a gun in his hand.

A group of men then went to the apartment building and knocked on the door of a suite. When a man answered, he was struck in the face with the pistol. A physical fight erupted between two of the men in the hallway. During the confrontation, bear spray was deployed.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and determined the men involved were known to each other, and that the armed man at the restaurant was one of the men involved in the altercation at the apartment building.

Four people were taken into custody.
