Update:

A man has been charged in connection with an ongoing investigation following a report that a woman was sexually assaulted on July 19, 2026, in the area of Canora Street and Picardy Place.

As the result of forensic analysis, a suspect was identified and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

On September 15, 2026, investigators with the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit attended the Headingley Correctional Institution and executed an arrest warrant on
Adrian Logan SOUTHWIND (20), who was in custody on an unrelated matter.

SOUTHWIND was charged with Sexual Assault and Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm. He remains in custody.

As previously released:

The Winnipeg Police Service is issuing a public advisory, following the report of a random sexual assault on a woman in the area of Canora Street/Picardy Place.

On July 19, 2026, around 10:30 p.m., a woman was walking southbound on Toronto Street, crossed Portage Avenue, near Picardy Place when she was grabbed by an unknown man. He threatened to harm her if she screamed and she was pulled into an alcove nearby. She was choked, sexually assaulted and robbed of her property.

Suspect described as:

  • A man in his 30s.
  • Heavy build, approximately 6’0” in height.
  • Short spiky dark hair.
  • NO SHIRT, wearing black shorts and black shoes.

Investigators from the Sex Crimes Unit are requesting anyone with information, including surveillance video from this area, to call investigators at 204-986-6245 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org. In an emergency, call 911.
