On August 28, 2026, just before 1:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a retail store in the 600 block of Sargent Avenue following reports of a commercial robbery where a security guard was stabbed.

Central District General Patrol officers attended and located a 24-year-old male victim suffering from a serious upper-body injury. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable. The suspect fled before police arrived.

The Major Crimes unit assumed the investigation.

It was learned that the male had entered the store, selected a number of retail items, and was attempting to leave without paying when he was confronted by store security. A physical altercation ensued which eventually spilled outside of the business where the suspect produced a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed the guard in the upper body. The suspect fled with stolen merchandise.

On August 29, 2026, just before 12:00 p.m., the suspect was located and arrested without incident in the area of Sherbrook Street and Ellice Avenue.

Peter Edwin Morrison BLACK, (23), has been charged with Robbery, Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon, and was detained in custody.
