On August 19, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from East District, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team, responded to the report of a stabbing at an apartment building in the 600 block of Dakota Street.

An adult male, armed with a knife and believed to be intoxicated was refusing to leave a family residence. He attempted to stab an adult female relative in her 40s (victim 1), who was able to defend herself with a laundry basket and was not injured. The accused then left the suite and was locked out of the building but continued attempting to regain access.

Once outside, he confronted an unknown male in his late teens (victim 2), who was in front of the building. At knifepoint, the victim was robbed of his property but was not physically injured.

Another relative in his 50s (victim 3) came outside and confronted the accused, who remained armed. During the confrontation, the victim was stabbed and seriously injured. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

The accused fled the area but was located by police a few blocks west on Arden Avenue and taken into custody.

A 27-year-old man, Marvin Nallaq SHIMOUT, from Coral Harbour, Nunavut was charged with the following offences:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder x 2
