On August 7, 2026, just before 9:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service North District officers were responding to a call for service, travelling westbound on Portage Avenue at Garry Street. The officers entered the intersection on a green light when their cruiser collided with a cyclist travelling northbound on Garry Street, knocking the female cyclist to the ground and injuring her.
Officers immediately stopped and provided emergency medical care to the 37-year-old cyclist. She was transported to hospital in stable condition.
As this matter is deemed a serious incident pursuant to The Police Services Act, the Civilian Director of the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified.
