Preschool-aged child sustains serious injuries, 39-year-old charged: R26-38054

On July 6, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service Child Abuse Unit was contacted after a preschool-aged child was transported by ambulance and admitted for treatment of serious injuries.  

Investigators learned that earlier that day, the child was being cared for by a 39-year-old man at a residence in the 300 block of Thames Avenue when the injuries occurred. The man contacted emergency services, and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended and transported the child to the hospital.

On July 7, 2026, at approximately 5:05 p.m., investigators located the 39-year-old man in the 300 block of Thames Avenue, where he was taken into custody.

The 39-year-old has been charged with Aggravated Assault and was detained in custody.
