Man arrested after discharging firearm in Lord Selkirk Park neighbourhood: C26-95605

On April 25, 2026, shortly before 4:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Main Street and Euclid Avenue for the report of a male observed with a firearm.

Attending North District General Patrol officers located the suspect standing in a yard in the 200 block of Austin Street and arrested him without incident. Officers found a loaded sawed-off 12 guage shotgun concealed on his person which was seized as evidence.

Through the investigation, officers learned that the suspect was walking in the area with a group of people when he retrieved the firearm from his person and indiscriminately fired two shots in the air. The suspect was observed concealing the firearm on his person before he continued to walk towards Austin Street where he was taken into custody.

Damon Wyatt MALLETT (23) is charged with the following offences:

  • Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order

MALLETT was detained in custody.
