On March 26, 2026, following an investigation by the Winnipeg Police

Service’s Firearms Enforcement Unit (FEU) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), investigators arrested a 22-year-old man in relation to smuggled firearm investigation.

On February 25, 2026, the man ordered a taxi to take him from an address in the city’s north end to the 2500 block of Pembina. During the trip, he removed a black case from his backpack which he forgot in the cab when he exited.

The case was later located by the cab driver and found to contain a loaded Glock handgun with an auto sear, an extended magazine, and 9mm ammunition. The case and firearm were turned over to police, and the FEU assumed the investigation.

Investigators identified the 22-year-old as Markus Jerome James NORTH as a suspect and linked an associated address in the 2500 of Pembina Highway.

On March 20, FEU and CBSA investigators executed a search warrant at the above-mentioned address and arrested NORTH without incident. The search of the residence netted the following evidence:

  • 23 Grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $2,300)
  • 124 Grams of Crack Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $9,920)
  • Cell Phones

NORTH was charged with multiple firearms-related, drug trafficking, and failure to comply with conditions of release order offences. He was also arrested on the strength of two warrants of arrest for failure to attend court.
