In early 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit began an investigation regarding a string of retail thefts to commercial businesses within Winnipeg. Investigators determined that a man was linked to the string of retail thefts at two north end grocery stores, included the following:
- January 19: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected meat products valued at $300 and exited the store without paying
- January 23: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected meat products and attempted to leave without paying before being stopped by security. He returned minutes later to select meat products valued at $100, leaving the store without paying
- January 24: a man entered a grocery store in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue, selected meat products valued at $90, and exited the store without paying
- January 26: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected meat products valued at $100 and exited the store without paying
- January 31: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected meat products valued at $680 and exited the store without paying
- February 6: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected meat products valued at $150 and exited the store without paying
- February 9: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected chocolate products valued at $622 and exited the store without paying
- February 20: a man entered a grocery store in the 2500 block of Main Street, selected chocolate products valued at $100 and exited the store without paying
All incidents were captured on the retailer’s security cameras and reported to police. The total loss incurred by the retailer is estimated at over $5,000.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and identified a male involved in the above-mentioned incidents, arresting him on March 6, on the strength of four warrants of arrest. (Robbery, Theft Under $5,000 x 5, Mischief Under $5,000, Fail to Attend Court, and Fail to Comply with Release Order x 5.
Keith Lyle REDHEAD (18) is charged with an additional eight counts of Theft Under $5,000 and one count for Fail to Comply with Release Order.
REDHEAD was detained in custody.
