Homicide Unit make arrest in relation to Agnes Street fatal fire: C26-29940

Update:

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Homicide Unit continued to investigate the fatal fire that occurred on February 7, 2026, in the 300 block of Agnes Street. As a result of the fire, two women succumbed to their injuries.

The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Tyanaa NATTAWAY, and 48-year-old Crystal Mary Ellen BEARDY, members of Garden Hill First Nation, who had been residing in Winnipeg.

Investigators learned that the fire had been deliberately set following a dispute between family members.

On February 10, 2026, investigators arrested 30-year-old Douglas Wayne Jr. NATTAWAY and have charged him with Second Degree Murder X 2 and Arson Disregard Human Life x 2. NATTAWAY was previously known to both victims.

NATTAWAY was detained in custody.

On February 7, 2026, just before 10:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a house fire in the 300 block of Agnes Street.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was already on scene battling the fire. Multiple occupants were evacuated. Five people were transported to hospital: three in critical condition and two in stable condition. One of the people that was transported in critical condition has since been upgraded to stable condition. However, the two others originally transported in critical condition (an 18 and 48-year-old women) have succumbed to their injuries.
