On November 3, 2025, at 1:41 p.m., the Major Crimes Unit arrested 28-year-old Machuor Machar AKAU in the Southdale neighbourhood. AKAU was wanted in relation to an aggravated assault involving a firearm which occurred on November 2 in the McMillan neighbourhood.
Shortly after 2:15 a.m. on November 2, AKAU was involved in an altercation with his 25-year-old girlfriend at an apartment in the 200 block of Wellington Crescent. During the altercation, AKAU produced a handgun which discharged and struck her at close range. Seriously injured, she escaped the building and waved down members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service in the area, who provided her with emergency medical care. She was transported to hospital in critical condition with a life-altering injury, and remains in hospital. AKAU fled the area in a vehicle before police arrived.
Attending West District General Patrol officers, assisted by the the Tactical Support Team, searched for, but did not locate AKAU.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and obtained a warrant of arrest for AKAU authorizing the charge of Aggravated Assault.
On November 3, 2025 at 1:26 p.m., police received information that led them to AKAU in the area of Fermor Avenue and Beaverhill Road, where he was arrested without incident.
AKAU was charged with Aggravated Assault and detained in custody.
