On July 3, 2025, at 10:44 p.m., police were called to a convenience store in the 1700 block of Portage Avenue after a man was seriously assaulted outside the store by an unknown suspect armed with a machete.

West District patrol officers arrived shortly after and learned the suspect had fled on foot. A passer-by provided first aid to the victim, using a belt as a makeshift tourniquet to help control the bleeding. Officers provided additional first aid and applied a tourniquet when they arrived on scene. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition with serious injuries.

The suspect is described as a male between 15 and 17 years old, 5’6” to 5’10” tall with a skinny build, light complexion, and shaggy dark hair. He was wearing a black Tupac t-shirt, torn black jeans, dark sandals with white or grey socks, and carrying a grey backpack. He is believed to have been with two other teenagers when the assault occurred.

The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has taken over the investigation and is asking anyone with information about the assault or the suspect to come forward. Tips can be provided by calling MCU at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org
