Search warrant in Centennial neighbourhood and traffic stop in Daniel McIntyre area leads to cocaine trafficking charges:

In June, the Winnipeg Police Service became aware of community concerns around suspected drug activity in the Centennial neighbourhood. The Central District Community Support Unit, with assistance from the Guns & Gangs Unit, began a drug investigation in this area.

On June 23, 2025, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue. Four people were arrested and the following items were seized:

  • cocaine and crack with an estimated street value of $1,200
  • drug paraphernalia and packaging materials
  • Glock style BB gun and Smith & Wesson BB guns
  • $410 in proceeds of crime money

A 37-year-old man, and three women (ages 31, 37 and 42), are facing drug trafficking charges and were all released on Undertakings.

On June 30, just before 10:00 p.m., Central District Community Support officers were proactively patrolling in the Daniel McIntyre neighbourhood when they conducted a traffic stop at McGee/Wellington.

Observing signs of drug activity, police placed the driver under arrest and while attempting to handcuff him, he tried to break free and threw a bag of drugs that he was holding on to. Police took the man into custody and the following items were seized as part of the investigation:

  • 5 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $500)
  • $1,170 in Canadian cash
  • cell phones

Tyler Jordan SAWATSKY (26) was charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing proceeds of crime. He was detained in custody.
