Central Foot Patrol arrest prolific suspect involved in retail liquor thefts: C25-141349

On June 23, at 9:46 p.m., Central Foot Patrol officers arrested a 31-year-old man in the area of Furby Street and Portage Avenue after learning he had twice stolen liquor from the same store earlier in the day. Officers recovered several bottles of vodka during the arrest.

The prolific offender who is known to police from historical theft-related incidents, entered the business in the 900 block of Portage Avenue at 5:53 p.m. and at 9:32 p.m., and by-passed the security kiosk by following patrons who were exiting the store. He stole a total of four bottles before he fled on foot and police were summoned. Well-positioned Foot Patrol officers intercepted him nearby and arrested him without issue.

He faces two counts of Theft Under and was released on an Appearance Notice to appear in court at a later date.

Foot Patrol officers provide a visual presence in the community by conducting proactive patrols and responding to calls for service from businesses and members of the general public. They are a resource that has proven extremely effective in the identification and arrests of priority offenders in the city’s downtown and as a unit, continues to address concerns form citizens and the business community.
