Commercial Break & Enter – Arrests: C25-65063

During the beginning of 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit commenced an investigation regarding multiple commercial break, enter and thefts of property from businesses within the city.

As a result of the investigation, a suspect was identified and search warrants were conducted at a residence in the 200 block of Park Manor Boulevard, in which outstanding stolen property was located and linked to the separate incidents listed below:

- In mid-October of 2024, the suspect broke into a retail construction site in the 100 block of Center Street where he made separate trips and stole materials valued at approximately $30,000.

- Between January 31 and February 3, 2025, a commercial business in the 2400 block of Ferrier Street was broken into and property valued at approximately $50,000 was stolen.

- On March 25, 2025, the suspect, accompanied by a yet-to-be-arrested male, attended a retail business in the 700 block of Nairn Avenue in a vehicle with a license plate which had been reported stolen earlier in the day. While inside, a coin-operated machine was broken into and approximately $100 in coin was stolen.

- On March 28, the suspect, accompanied by a yet-to-be-identified male, attended a commercial business in the 2000 block De Vries Avenue, forced entry into the building and stole the business ATM machine from within the store.

On May 8, 2025, officers arrested Joseph Daniel SWAIN, 40, of Winnipeg.  Swain has been charged with the following offences:

  • Break Enter & Theft – Place x 2
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
  • Allegation of Non-Compliance with Conditional Sentence Order

SWAIN was detained in custody.

A 39-year-old female known to SWAIN and arrested during the execution of one of the search warrants, faces a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. She was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
