On April 22, 2025 at approximately 12:45 a.m., West District officers of the Winnipeg Police Service proactively patrolling the area of Maryland Street and Westminster Avenue, observed a fight in progress between several individuals. One of the parties involved appeared to be brandishing a firearm.

Officers approached the male holding the firearm and directed him to drop the firearm, with which he complied. The male was placed under arrest and the firearm, determined to be an airsoft pistol, was recovered and seized. Officers also spoke with a 28-year-old female and a 39-year-old male, and confirmed both were uninjured.

Through their investigation, officers learned that the suspect had approached the victims on the sidewalk and demanded property while brandishing and pointing the firearm. The male victim refused to turn over property and a fight ensued between the males. During the scuffle, the suspect was disarmed of the firearm and sustained a minor upper-body injury for which he refused treatment.

A 20-year-old male of Winnipeg faces the following charges:

  • Armed Robbery using a Firearm x 2
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
