On April 20, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., North District General Patrol officers were conducting proactive patrols in the William Whyte neighbourhood when they observed a 2019 Dodge Ram travelling eastbound on Selkirk Avenue without its headlights on. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle containing three male occupants in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue.
While interviewing the male occupants regarding the Highway Traffic Act infraction, officers observed multiple items consistent with drug trafficking. All three male suspects were arrested without incident and a drug trafficking investigation was initiated.
A search of the vehicle by officers revealed the following:
- Approximately 1.3 grams of crack cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $160)
- Approximately 7.2 grams of purple Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value - $1,250)
- A quantity of loose Fentanyl pebbles
- Drug packaging materials
- Electronic scale
- Multiple cellphones
A 38-year-old male, from Portage la Prairie is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
He was detained in custody.
A 40-year-old male from Portage la Prairie, and a 43-year-old male from Winnipeg, are facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl
They were both released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
