Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C25-79659

On April 15, 2025, at approximately 11:35 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the sub 100 block of Winestock Place after a caller reported an unknown injured individual at their door.

North District General Patrol officers attended and located a 23-year-old male suffering from upper-body injuries consistent with being assaulted with a knife. The victim indicated to officers that he was assaulted by his roommate in the sub 100 block of Blackthorne Bay. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

At approximately 12:10 a.m. (April 16th), officers attended the sub 100 block of Blackthorne Bay and located the 29-year-old suspect, suffering from self-inflicted injuries. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Also located inside the residence was a dog suffering from stab wounds inflicted by the suspect. The dog was transported to an animal hospital where it was treated for its injuries.

The Major Crimes Unit investigators assumed the investigation.

Dayvell KAKAKAWAY (29) of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Causing Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal
  • Possession of a Weapon

He was detained in custody.
