In March 2025, The Winnipeg Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit began investigating an incident involving the luring of a female victim in her mid-teens.

Investigators determined that between October 2024 and March of 2025, an adult male who was at the time employed as a teacher at a school in the Fort Garry neighbourhood, inappropriately communicated with a student through private messaging on a social media platform. The accused gained the victim’s trust and forged an inappropriate relationship with her.

On April 11, 2025, investigators arrested 58-year-old Ketan BADIANI of Winnipeg without incident.

BADIANI has been charged with the following offences:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Sexual Exploitation
  • Luring a Person Under 18 years of age by Means of Telecommunication

He was released on a court order prohibiting contact with individuals under 18, as mandated by the Criminal Code.
