On March 8, 2025 at approximately 2:50 a.m., patrolling Central District General Patrol officers observed an adult male operating a bicycle with a large machete in hand, approaching two unsuspecting pedestrians in the back lane of Sherbrook Street, between Sargent Avenue and Ellice Avenue.
As officers approached, the suspect, still armed with the machete, fled on the bicycle and entered the rear of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street. The suspect was quickly caught by officers inside the building and placed in custody after offering some resistance. The machete was seized as evidence and a small quantity of methamphetamine was located on his person following a subsequent search.
A 27-year-old male of Winnipeg faces the following charges:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Resist Peace Officer
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 4
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
He was detained in police custody awaiting disposition.
