On March 5, 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Traffic Division, with the assistance of Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement conducted a targeted enforcement project, focusing on compliance regarding hours of service regulations of transport vehicles. Violations relating to the hours of service within the commercial trucking industry can pose serious safety risks.
As a result of this project, 4 commercial drivers were placed on regulatory shutdown for 72 hours each. A total of 17 Provincial Offence Act tickets were issued, 5 under the Highway Traffic Act, 1 under Manitoba Regulation, and 11 under the Federal Commercial Vehicle Driver’s Hours of Service Regulation, totalling approximately $32,000 in fines.
These regulations have been enacted to combat driver fatigue and provides safety to motorists travelling on the same roadways, effectively making Manitoba roads safer.
