On March 5, 2025 at approximately 12:40 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 800 block of Main Street for the report of a male who had been stabbed.

Attending North District General Patrol officers located a 37-year-old male victim suffering from a serious upper body injury sustained from having been stabbed. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later updated to stable. It was determined that the suspect and victim were involved in an unprovoked verbal confrontation which escalated with the suspect stabbing the victim. They were previously unknown to one another. The suspect fled before police arrived

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the suspect approached the victim in the area of Main Street and Pioneer Avenue where he approached a 61-year-old male victim and requested a cigarette. Unprovoked, the suspect produced a knife, stabbed the victim in the upper body, and fled on foot.

Dispatched Central District General Patrol officers with Downtown Foot Patrol located the victim and summoned paramedics to attend. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

At approximately 3:05 p.m., officers located the suspect in the 300 block of Portage Avenue and placed him under arrest without incident.

A 23-yr-old male of Winnipeg faces charges of Assault with a Weapon x 2 and Possession of a Weapon.

He was detained in custody.
