On February 22, 2025, at approximately 1:11 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service North District General Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a taxi in the area of Dufferin Avenue and Salter Street for an unrelated matter.
Before officers could approach the taxi, a 41-year-old male suspect (passenger) exited and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect resisted arrest and bit the officer, resulting in officers deploying a conducted energy weapon (taser) to safely effect the arrest. The suspect was treated at the scene for, while the officer was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.
Officers located the following incident to arrest:
- Approximately 14 grams of Cocaine (estimated street value of $1380)
- $200 Canadian Currency.
Officers also learned that the suspect was wanted on three (3) outstanding warrants for his arrest.
A 41-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges and remains in police custody at this time:
- Assault a Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking COCAINE x 2
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2
