On February 16, 2025, at approximately 11:15 p.m., while investigating an unrelated matter, Central District General Patrol officers came into contact with a suspicious male, who was in a common area of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Langside Street.
Officers observed a male who appeared to have drug paraphernalia near him and was attempting to conceal a large amount of money. The male was arrested without incident.
A search of the male revealed the following:
- Approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $1,000)
- Loaded gold and black coloured pellet gun
- 3-inch folding knife
- Canister of red spray paint
- Drug packaging materials
- Cell phone
- Approximately $330 in Canadian currency
A subsequent search of the suspect’s bag revealed a hatchet and 36 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition. Officers also observed what appeared to be fresh, red coloured graffiti in the common area consistent with the canister of red spray paint found on the suspect.
A 32-year-old male, from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Weapon x 3
- Careless Use of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
He was released on two Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
