On February 14, 2025 at approximately 11:50 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 100 block of Rupert Avenue for the report of an adult female who had been assaulted.
Information received relayed that a 34-year-old female victim had been walking in the area when she was approached and physically assaulted by an adult male suspect. The victim was knocked to the ground where the assault continued. Bystanders who witnessed the assault intervened and provided her refuge inside a vehicle preventing further assault.
The suspect continued on foot to the Logan Avenue and Princess Street intersection, where he approached a vehicle in traffic and kicked the driver side door of a 2025 Porsche Macan causing approximately $1,000 in damage. The suspect attempted to assault other pedestrians before several bystanders intervened, apprehended the male near Princess Street and Rupert Avenue, and waited for police to arrive. At approximately 12:08 p.m., the suspect was turned over to Central District General Patrol officers without incident.
The victim did not suffer any injuries as a result of the assault and did not require medical attention. The victim and the suspect were not previously known to one another and the assault is considered random.
Michael Andrew LACHANCE, 46, of Winnipeg is charged with Assault, Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
LACHANCE was detained in custody.
